I am just posting my review here. When you take these headphones out of the box you immediately notice the weight. Seeing as they are made of mostly metal, besides the replaceable ear cups and headband, this is not too surprising. The metal gives these headphones a very premium feel. The removable ear cups are very soft and comfortable and also easily replaceable connected via magnets. The comfort of these headphones rivals most of the other headphones that I own or have owned.
The pioneer headphones are made for long listening sessions and DJ sets and the new Apple headphones tend to be more comfortable than those. When I initially got them I had them on for over 5 hours without any discomfort. Also, a common problem with some over ear headphones is that your ear my start to get hot or sweat over time. That has not been a problem with these headphones. The ear cups are not made out of a non-breathable leather which I am assuming is the reason why my ears do not heat up or sweat over time.
The mesh at the top of the headband aids in the comfort. The other thing that makes these comfortable is the various adjustment points. From the telescoping arms to the ball point hinges, you can get an almost perfect fit for your head shape. Now let's talk about the sound quality. I will fist start off by stating that the noise cancelation, compared to the PXC II is significantly better. It does not completely cancel out all noise however, it does a better job.
I think. When you use the transparency mode these microphones really shine! When this mode is active, and no music is playing, I can clearly hear myself as if I did not have the headphones on at all! Very impressive hardware and software magic from Apple. When actually playing music, in my opinion, the quality rivals a large selection of over ear headphones expect the high end audiophile range. The lows are not muddy and the mids and highs come through very crisp. The clarity is most likely due to the fact that the headphone boasts a 40mm driver which is large enough to reproduce a wide range of frequencies at high volumes without distortion or clipping.
I am a big fan of the tactile buttons and Digital Crown that they have on the headphones for control. This control interface is simple and easy to learn and use daily. The noise cancelation button allows you to cycle between the various noise cancelation modes and in the software you can choose which of the three modes it cycles between see image.
Te Digital Crown is exactly like what you will find on the Apple Watch, only bigger. Using these headphones with Apple devices is pretty much as expected, seamless. I will say that you will need to ensure that you devices are updated to the latest operating system in order to fully enjoy all of the features. Battery life so far is very good! The smart case helps maintain battery life when not in use.
From regular use I can go about three days before I need to charge them again. Now that is not travel days. If you travel a lot you may have to charge them more often. Everyones use case is different. Let me talk about the things that I don't like about these headphones. FYI these may be just personal gripes and might not bother you nor do they take away from the function of the headphones. The first issue that I have is that Apple is still trying to hold onto the lighting charging port.
I really wish the would have put a USB C charging port on these headphones bringing them into the rapidly forming universal charging world that is here. The second gripe I have is with the case. If you look at the images I provided you can see how there are gaps in the case. This bothers me slightly because if I were to put these in my backpack on my daily commute there is a chance that something could slip in and scratch the ear cups.
Now, I will see if this happens over time but it was not something that I had to deal with with my PXC II because the case for those was completely covering of the headphones. I will add to this review overtime as use these headphones more Color: Silver Verified Purchase.
Considering what these cost, I feel the Bose headphones are superior and for less than these cost, so I returned these. I was asked to evaluate these by a friend. The design is typical Apple. The sound quality is excellent. Ample bass, pleasant to listen to. I work in music production, so i have a good baseline of experience with headphones of all different kinds. The noise cancelling, is probably the best I've ever heard. I'm not usually a fan of noise cancelling, except for plane flights, but these are exceptional in that regard.
Things I don't like: The headband has a very thin spandex type material that I'm positive will get torn the moment any mishap takes place. It's unnecessary to the design. No way to plug in for wired use, except for the apple charge to mini jack converter. If I didn't already have some bluetooth headphones that are really decent, I may have kept these. After all, these are "spatial audio enabled"!
What does that mean? Well, let's talk about that. I'm an audio professional and am interested in Dolby Atmos, which is now offered in Apple Music. So, when I heard about this, I couldn't throw my money at them fast enough to get these magic headphones that would put me in 3 dimensional music world. The headphones showed up today, and I put them to the test. Here's what happened. I spent this evaluation time mostly in the Settings menu, switching the Dolby off and on between the lossless, so i could really hear the differences.
I guess the effect of Atmos at least in headphones is similar to hearing the music performed in a live setting. Things are less present, more muted, and swimming in the room. What I got was a less present, mushier, sub-heavy version, that lacked the urgency of the original mix. This was true for mostly everything I heard. The exception for me was the Art Blakey's "Moanin'", which because of the recording , when often the stereo 2 channels or speakers mixing style of the day involved each instrument hard panned to the left or right speaker, with little or no center position middle ground in the original mixes.
The Atmos helps a bit by panning everybody slightly more center. On most rock mixes, I still prefer the lossless. Overall, drums are just way mushier. Maybe this is just an unfortunate sign of early days of a format that's finding its sea legs. Call me old, call me cranky, but misplaced verb is stanky. The headphones have already been dropped at UPS for return. For this particular prosumer,'s the whole "spatial thing" is not quite ready for prime time.
Best of luck, Skip. The sound is fantastic across all genres of music. They project a wide soundstage and just the right amount of bass. I can listen to these for hours with great comfort and without my ears becoming sweaty. These premium headphones live up to the premium price. Pros: - Build quality is fantastic. Great quality all around from the cups, to the headrest, to the buttons. This is the main reason for me to give it 4 stars instead of 5. While it is priced higher than it's competitors, it offers a lot of bells and whistles too.
Whether paying the premium for things like transparency mode is worth it or not is up to you. These headphones sound great. No doubt they are as good if not better sounding than my Bose. But they are heavy and not real comfortable. Also, the controls are in a place that if you adjust the fit on the headphones you inadvertently touch the control buttons, which is not a good thing.
Lastly, the case makes no sense. Apple really blew it on these. I like my Ns but love my AirPods Max. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Translate all reviews to English.
Translate review to English. Incredible build quality - metal over plastic any day.
Sounds quality is very enjoyable. No one on the market has a more accurate transparency mode. I love using that when out in public and went to hear my surroundings. Spatial audio is super cool as well. The case is trash, like every other reviewer out there says. I never even took my case out of the original wrapping.
While it sucks that you can't turn these "off", it's not like the headphones blow through power when not in use. NBD for me as I have a headphone stand that I keep these one and plug them in when I'm away from the desk. Aside from price, I'd argue the criticisms for these headphones are generally overrated.
If you're reading this in , I'd suggest waiting for version 2 to address some of the above concerns. The active noise cancellation feature is great. Immediately evident a second after pressing the button to activate it.
I got these to wear while machining stuff on a CNC mill, and that was my primary concern. Comfort isn't that great. I was hoping these would be comfortable to wear for hours. Within an hour, I can feel something abrasive rubbing my ear in the wrong way.
